Description

A delicious and healthy twist on the classic tuna melt, featuring a creamy avocado and tuna mixture served on toasted bagels with fresh tomato and melted cheese. Perfect for a quick lunch or light dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Bagels

  • 2 bagels, sliced in half
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened

Tuna Avocado Mixture

  • 1 can (5 ounces) tuna, drained
  • 1 ripe avocado, mashed
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely diced

Toppings

  • 4 slices tomato
  • 4 slices cheddar or provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Broiler: Preheat your oven’s broiler to prepare for toasting the bagels and melting the cheese.
  2. Mix Tuna Avocado Spread: In a medium bowl, combine the tuna, mashed avocado, mayonnaise or Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, red onion, and celery. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Toast Bagels: Arrange the bagel halves on a baking sheet, butter the cut sides lightly, then place them under the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes until they are lightly toasted. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  4. Add Toppings: Remove the toasted bagels from the oven. Spread the tuna avocado mixture evenly over each half, then top each with a slice of tomato and a slice of your chosen cheese.
  5. Melt Cheese: Return the topped bagels under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  6. Serve Warm: Once the cheese is melted and bubbly, remove the bagels from the oven and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Everything bagels add extra flavor and are a great choice for this recipe.
  • For a lighter option, use reduced-fat cheese or omit the butter on the bagels to reduce fat content.
