Description

Delicious BBQ brown sugar sausages baked to perfection in a rich, sweet, and smoky sauce. These sausages are coated with a homemade blend of brown sugar, barbecue sauce, and spices, then baked in the oven until tender and flavorful. Perfect for a hearty meal or game day snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausages

  • 2 lbs sausage links (choose your favorite type, such as pork or turkey)

Sauce

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your preferred brand or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicier kick)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the sausages.
  2. Prepare the baking dish: Lightly grease a large baking dish with cooking spray or a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Arrange the sausages: Place the sausage links in the baking dish in a single layer for even cooking.
  4. Make the sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using. Mix thoroughly until the brown sugar dissolves and the sauce is smooth.
  5. Coat the sausages: Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the sausages, making sure each link is well-coated for maximum flavor.
  6. Cover and bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to allow the sausages to cook and absorb the sauce.
  7. Stir and continue baking: Remove the foil carefully, stir the sausages gently to coat them again with the sauce, then return the dish to the oven uncovered.
  8. Finish baking: Bake uncovered for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until the sausages are fully cooked through and the sauce is bubbly and slightly thickened.
  9. Rest and serve: Remove the sausages from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving to enhance flavor and safety.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, include the optional cayenne pepper.
  • You can use pork, turkey, or any sausage of your choice depending on dietary preferences.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, or a fresh salad.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can reduce the sauce on the stovetop before pouring it over the sausages.
