Description

These Breakfast Fruit Tarts are a delightful and easy-to-make morning treat featuring flaky puff pastry, a creamy sweetened cheese spread, and fresh mixed fruit. Perfect for a fresh and colorful start to your day, these tarts combine a crisp golden crust with a smooth, fruity topping that can be customized with your favorite seasonal fruits. Ideal for breakfast or brunch, they’re simple enough for everyday and elegant enough for guests.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 cup mixed fresh fruit (such as berries, kiwi, bananas, or peaches)
  • Optional powdered sugar or extra honey for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Unroll the puff pastry onto the sheet and cut it into four equal rectangles.
  2. Score and Vent Pastry: Using a knife, lightly score a 1/2 inch border around each rectangle without cutting all the way through. Poke the center of each rectangle several times with a fork to prevent excessive puffing during baking.
  3. Apply Egg Wash and Bake: Beat the egg and gently brush the borders of each pastry rectangle with the egg wash. Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
  4. Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Assemble the Tarts: Once the pastry has cooled, gently press down the center of each tart to create space for the filling. Spread a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture evenly in the center of each tart.
  6. Add Fruit and Serve: Top each tart with the mixed fresh fruit. Optionally, drizzle with additional honey or sprinkle with powdered sugar for extra sweetness. Serve immediately to enjoy the crisp texture of the pastry.

Notes

  • Best served fresh for optimal texture and flavor.
  • You can prepare the cream cheese mixture and cut fruit ahead of time to save assembly time in the morning.
  • For a vegan version, substitute with dairy-free yogurt and cream cheese alternatives.
