Mushrooms:
- 1 pound button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- vegetable oil for frying
Cool Ranch Dip:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Dip each mushroom into the seasoned flour, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat 2–3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry mushrooms in batches for 3–4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- To make the dip, stir all ingredients together in a small bowl and chill until ready to serve.
- Serve mushrooms hot with ranch dip on the side.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, double-dip the mushrooms by repeating the flour and egg steps before the final breadcrumb coating.
- You can use an air fryer at 400°F for about 10–12 minutes as a healthier option.
