Description

These Easy Cheesy Chicken-Filled Crescents are a delicious homemade treat featuring tender spiced chicken wrapped in soft, buttery crescent dough with a cheesy filling. Perfect for a snack or a light meal, these crescents combine a savory sautéed chicken filling with a rich, flaky dough baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 500g flour
  • Salt (to taste, approx. 1 tsp)
  • Yeast (instant or active dry, approx. 7g or 2 tsp)
  • 75g yogurt
  • Honey (approx. 1 tbsp)
  • 25ml olive oil
  • Water (around 200ml, warm)

Filling

  • 700g chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • Various spices: cayenne pepper (1 tsp), garlic powder (1 tsp), cumin (1 tsp)
  • 40g butter (melted, for layering)
  • Grated cheese (approx. 150g, type such as cheddar or mozzarella)
  • Optional sauces for tossing chicken (e.g., hot sauce or BBQ sauce, approx. 2 tbsp)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Olive oil (for sautéing chicken)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, yeast, yogurt, honey, olive oil, and warm water. Mix well until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 to 12 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth.
  2. Let dough rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean cloth or plastic wrap, and leave it in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  3. Cook the chicken filling: While the dough rises, heat a bit of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken thighs seasoned with cayenne, garlic powder, and cumin. Sauté the chicken until fully cooked through and nicely browned, about 8-10 minutes. Once cooked, toss the chicken with your choice of sauces for added flavor, then set aside to cool slightly before filling.
  4. Shape the crescents: Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large circle. Brush the surface with melted butter, then sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the dough. Cut the dough into triangles, approximately 12 pieces for 12 servings.
  5. Fill and assemble crescents: Place some of the cooked chicken filling at the wider end of each dough triangle. Roll up from the wide end towards the point to form crescent shapes. Place the crescents on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Apply egg wash and bake: Beat the egg and brush it over each crescent to give them a beautiful glossy finish. Bake the crescents in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm for a savory, cheesy, and satisfying treat.

Notes

  • Ensure the chicken is fully cooked through before using as filling.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for the dough for better yeast activity.
  • Customize the spice mix according to your taste preference for mild or spicy crescents.
  • If you prefer, substitute the chicken thighs with chicken breast for a leaner option.
  • The cheese type can be varied; mozzarella or a sharp cheddar work well for meltiness and flavor.
  • These crescents can be served with a side of dipping sauces like ranch or garlic mayo for extra indulgence.
