Apples:

  • 3 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

Batter:

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup milk

For Dusting:

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. Prepare Apples: Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice. Set aside.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  6. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, alternating with milk, mixing until just combined.
  7. Layer Batter and Apples: Spread half of the batter in the pan, then layer half of the apple slices. Repeat with remaining batter and apples.
  8. Bake: Bake for 45–50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 15 minutes before removing from pan.

  • Add a splash of brandy or apple liqueur for a deeper taste.
  • Best served slightly warm or at room temperature.
