Description
Grinch Popcorn is a festive and fun holiday snack featuring crunchy popcorn coated in vibrant green white chocolate and topped with red candy accents for a playful Christmas treat inspired by the Grinch.
Ingredients
Scale
Popcorn
- 10 cups plain popped popcorn
Chocolate Coating
- 1 cup white chocolate chips or white candy melts
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
- green gel food coloring (to desired shade)
Seasoning and Toppings
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup red candy-coated chocolate candies (like M&M’s)
- heart-shaped sprinkles or red heart candies (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the popcorn: Place the popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl and carefully remove any unpopped kernels to ensure a pleasant eating experience.
- Melt the white chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips with the coconut oil. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted.
- Add green coloring: Stir in a few drops of green gel food coloring into the melted white chocolate, mixing until you achieve the classic Grinch green shade. Adjust the amount of coloring as needed.
- Coat the popcorn: Pour the vibrant green melted chocolate over the prepared popcorn. Gently toss the mixture with a spatula or spoon to evenly coat all the popcorn pieces without breaking them.
- Add toppings: Spread the coated popcorn in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle the red candy-coated chocolates and heart-shaped sprinkles over the surface for festive color contrast.
- Allow to set: Let the coated popcorn sit at room temperature for about 20 minutes to let the chocolate harden fully. Alternatively, you can refrigerate for about 10 minutes to speed up the setting process.
- Serve: Once the chocolate is firm, break the popcorn into clusters or pieces and serve as a delightful holiday snack.
Notes
- You can use air-popped, stovetop, or microwave popcorn, but make sure it’s plain and unsalted for best flavor and coating adherence.
- Adjust the amount of green food coloring to achieve your preferred shade of green.
- For extra festive flair, use heart-shaped sprinkles to symbolize the Grinch’s growing heart during the holidays.
