Scale
Main Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked white rice (preferably short-grain or medium-grain rice)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon butter (optional, for added richness)
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
- 1 green onion, finely chopped
- Nori (seaweed) strips, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the rice: Divide the cooked rice evenly into two serving bowls and keep it warm to ensure the dish is served hot and comforting.
- Fry the eggs: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add sesame oil. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook until the whites are fully set and the yolks reach your preferred doneness; traditionally, sunny-side up is used for a runny yolk.
- Assemble the bowls: Place one fried egg on top of each bowl of warm rice carefully to retain the yolk’s texture.
- Add flavor: Drizzle each bowl with soy sauce, adjusting the amount according to taste. Add a small pat of butter on top of the rice and egg if you desire a richer flavor experience.
- Garnish: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions evenly over the bowls for added texture and aroma. Optionally, garnish with nori strips for a slight crunch and umami boost.
- Mix and serve: Before eating, mix the egg, soy sauce, and rice thoroughly to blend the flavors and enjoy the creamy, savory combination fully.
Notes
- Use freshly cooked warm rice for the best texture and flavor.
- Adjust soy sauce amount to your salt preference.
- Butter is optional but adds a pleasant richness.
- For a runnier yolk, fry the egg sunny-side up without flipping.
- Nori strips add an authentic Korean flavor but can be omitted if unavailable.
- Can be customized by adding kimchi or other pickled vegetables as a side.
