Description

Honey Orange Shrimp is a quick and flavorful dish featuring succulent shrimp glazed with a sweet and tangy honey orange sauce. Perfect for a fast weeknight dinner, this recipe combines fresh orange juice, honey, garlic, and a hint of spice for a delightful balance of flavors that pair beautifully with steamed rice or a fresh salad.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Orange slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water, then pat them dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the oil: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, warm 2 tablespoons of olive oil until shimmering.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 2 minutes on one side, then flip and cook another 2 minutes until shrimp are opaque and cooked through. Remove shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Make the sauce: Lower the heat to medium. Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in honey, fresh orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, and crushed red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Combine shrimp and sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the honey orange sauce, making sure each piece is coated well. Cook for an additional 1 minute to let flavors meld.
  6. Serve: Transfer the shrimp to a serving dish, garnish with fresh chopped parsley and orange slices if desired. Serve immediately with your choice of sides.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free option, substitute soy sauce with tamari.
  • You can adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes depending on your preferred spice level.
  • Serve with steamed rice or a light salad for a complete meal.
  • Make sure not to overcook shrimp to keep them tender and juicy.
