Scale
Applesauce Base
- 24 fresh Fuji apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 4 cups water
Seasonings and Toppings
- 2–4 tablespoons pastured butter
- Pinch ground cinnamon
- Pinch ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Simmer the Apples: In a large pot, combine the peeled, cored, and chopped Fuji apples with 4 cups of water. Place the pot over medium heat and simmer the apples for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and tender.
- Mash or Blend to Texture: Once the apples are soft, use a masher or a blender to achieve your preferred texture. Mash by hand for a chunky applesauce or blend for a smooth consistency.
- Serve Warm with Butter and Spices: Serve the applesauce hot. Top each serving with a pat of pastured butter and sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon and nutmeg over the top for added warmth and flavor.
Notes
- Use Fuji apples for natural sweetness; other apple varieties can be substituted but may affect sweetness and texture.
- Adjust the amount of butter to taste for richer or lighter sauce.
- The applesauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days and reheated before serving.
- Add sweetener such as honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter applesauce.
- For a vegan version, substitute butter with plant-based margarine or coconut oil.
