For the dough:
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup melted unsalted butter
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
For the filling:
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 4 tablespoons softened unsalted butter
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
For the frosting:
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit until foamy. Add sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually stir in flour to form a soft dough. Knead on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes.
- Rise the dough: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Prepare the filling: Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and cocoa powder. Roll out the dough, spread butter, sprinkle the cinnamon mixture and chocolate chips. Roll up and slice into rolls.
- Bake: Place rolls in a baking dish, let rise, then bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes.
- Make the frosting: Mix cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Spread over warm rolls.
Notes
- You can refrigerate unbaked rolls overnight and bake the next day.
