Ingredients
Scale
Eggs
- 6 boiled eggs
Marinade
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ½ cup water
- â…“ cup honey or maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1-2 teaspoons red chili pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Boil Water: Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil, ensuring there is enough water to fully submerge the eggs.
- Cook Eggs: Using a slotted spoon, carefully lower the eggs into the boiling water. Cook according to your preferred firmness: 6-7 minutes for soft (jammy) eggs, 8-9 minutes for medium, or 10-12 minutes for hard-boiled eggs.
- Cool Eggs: Immediately transfer the cooked eggs to an ice bath or bowl of cold water to halt the cooking process and make peeling easier.
- Peel Eggs: Once cooled, gently peel the eggs to prepare them for marinating.
- Prepare Marinade: In a medium container, whisk together soy sauce, water, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame seeds, sesame oil, and optional chili flakes.
- Marinate Eggs: Place the peeled eggs in the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged for even flavor absorption.
- Refrigerate: Cover and refrigerate the eggs for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, allowing the flavors to deeply penetrate the eggs.
- Serve: Enjoy the marinated soy eggs as a ramen topping, over rice bowls, or simply as a flavorful snack.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red chili pepper flakes according to taste.
- Use fresh eggs for best results and easier peeling.
- The marinade can be reused once strained, but always check freshness before reusing.
- Adjust sweetness by using honey or maple syrup based on preference.
- These eggs keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
