Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
Filling
- 1/3 cup Nutella or other chocolate hazelnut spread
Egg Wash
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 tablespoon milk (optional, for thinner egg wash)
Finishing
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface. Gently roll it out to smooth out any creases and create an even thickness.
- Cut Pastry: Cut the puff pastry into 6 equal rectangles using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
- Add Nutella Filling: Spread about 1 tablespoon of Nutella on one half of each rectangle, leaving a small border around the edges to allow for sealing.
- Seal Pastries: Fold the other half of each rectangle over the Nutella side to form a pocket. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal completely and prevent leakage during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Mix the beaten egg with milk if desired for a thinner consistency and brush the tops of the folded pastries generously to achieve a glossy, golden finish after baking.
- Bake: Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Let the pastries cool slightly on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, then serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For added texture and flavor, sprinkle chopped hazelnuts inside the pastries along with Nutella before folding.
- These pastries are best enjoyed the day they are baked for optimal freshness and puffiness.
- To reheat leftovers, warm in the oven or air fryer briefly to restore crispness and warmth.
