Description

Delicious and hearty Patty Melts with a special secret sauce that perfectly complements the savory beef patties and melted cheese, all grilled between buttery slices of rye bread. Ready in just 30 minutes, this classic comfort food is great for a satisfying lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sandwiches

  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened and unsalted

For the Secret Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons chopped bacon pieces
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon relish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: Form the ground beef into 3 flattened patties, then season both sides with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to enhance the flavor.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties until they are thoroughly cooked through, usually about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish, stirring well to create a creamy and flavorful secret sauce.
  4. Toast the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of rye bread generously. Place the buttered side down in the same skillet.
  5. Assemble Sandwiches: On each slice of bread, layer 2 slices of provolone cheese, one cooked beef patty, and then 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Spread the secret sauce on another slice of bread, then place it sauce-side down on top to form a sandwich.
  6. Grill the Sandwiches: Cook the sandwiches in the skillet, flipping once the cheese starts to melt and the bread turns golden brown. Continue toasting the other side until golden and the cheese is completely melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and serve warm for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • Use softened unsalted butter for even spreading and better flavor control.
  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning on the patties to your taste.
  • The secret sauce can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
  • For a crispier sandwich, press down gently while grilling.
