Description

This Pepperoni Pasta Bake is a delicious and comforting American main course dish featuring penne pasta cooked al dente and combined with a creamy marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and generous amounts of mozzarella, Parmesan, and pepperoni. Baked until bubbly and golden, it’s the perfect cheesy casserole ideal for a family-friendly dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta and Sauce

  • 12 ounces penne pasta
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Cheese and Meat

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced pepperoni (divided)

Other Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to ensure it’s ready for baking the pasta dish later.
  2. Cook the Pasta: Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the penne pasta until al dente. Drain and set aside to keep warm.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the marinara sauce, heavy cream, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Stir and let it simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes to blend the flavors.
  4. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked pasta into the skillet and toss to coat thoroughly with the creamy tomato sauce.
  5. Add Cheese and Pepperoni: Stir in 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan, and 1 cup of the sliced pepperoni. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Assemble in Baking Dish: Transfer the pasta mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Evenly top with the remaining mozzarella, Parmesan, and pepperoni slices.
  7. Bake: Place the dish uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown on top.
  8. Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes to set. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Substitute turkey pepperoni for a lighter, lower-fat version.
  • Add sautéed onions, mushrooms, or bell peppers to increase the vegetable content and add extra flavor.
