Description

This Sausage and Peppers Skillet Recipe is a flavorful and hearty dish that comes together quickly in one pan. Perfect for a simple weeknight dinner, this Italian-American classic is packed with savory sausage, colorful bell peppers, and aromatic seasonings.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 Italian sausages (mild or hot), sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook sausage: Add the sausage slices and cook until browned on both sides, about 6 to 8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook vegetables: In the same skillet, add the bell peppers and onion. Cook until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add garlic, oregano, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook for another 1 minute.
  4. Combine and simmer: Return sausage to the skillet, pour in chicken broth or water. Stir, cover, and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Season and garnish: Uncover, season with salt and pepper. Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

Notes:

  • Serve over rice, pasta, or in hoagie rolls for a hearty meal.
  • Try turkey or chicken sausage for a lighter alternative.
