Description

Savory Cajun Steak Tips paired with creamy, cheesy penne pasta in a rich Parmesan sauce. This flavorful dish combines tender, spiced steak with a luscious, buttery sauce that clings perfectly to al dente penne pasta — ready in just 30 minutes for a satisfying and easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Seasonings

  • 1 pound sirloin steak tips
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Sauce and Pasta

  • 3 tablespoons butter (divided)
  • 8 ounces penne pasta
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley or chives (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Season the Steak: Pat the sirloin steak tips dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season the steak tips evenly with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Set aside at room temperature to let the flavors meld.
  2. Sear the Steak Tips: Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat until melted and hot. Add the seasoned steak tips and sear for 2 to 3 minutes per side until well browned. Remove the steak tips from the skillet and set them aside on a plate to rest.
  3. Cook the Penne Pasta: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add 8 ounces of penne pasta and cook until al dente according to package instructions, usually about 9 to 11 minutes. Drain the pasta, reserving 1/4 cup of the pasta cooking water for later use.
  4. Make the Parmesan Sauce: In the same skillet used for the steak, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Pour in the heavy cream and bring it to a gentle simmer. Stir in the garlic powder and optional paprika for extra flavor and color.
  5. Add the Cheese: Gradually stir in the freshly grated parmesan cheese until fully melted and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to thin it to your desired consistency.
  6. Toss Pasta in Sauce: Add the cooked penne pasta back into the skillet with the sauce. Toss thoroughly to ensure every piece of pasta is evenly coated in the cheesy Parmesan sauce.
  7. Serve and Garnish: Plate the cheesy penne pasta and arrange the seared Cajun steak tips on top. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives for a fresh, vibrant finish. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For best results, let the steak rest after searing to retain juices.
  • If you prefer less spice, reduce the amount of Cajun seasoning.
  • Use freshly grated parmesan cheese to ensure the sauce melts smoothly.
  • Reserve some pasta water to adjust sauce consistency without diluting flavor.
  • Substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter sauce, but it may be less creamy.
  • You can add a squeeze of lemon juice to the sauce for a bright finishing note.
