Description

Smashed Chilli Garlic Broccoli is a flavorful and spicy side dish that’s as visually appealing as it is tasty. This recipe combines tender broccoli florets with zesty garlic, red chili flakes, and a touch of Parmesan for a dish that’s sure to impress.


Ingredients

Broccoli:

  • 1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets

Seasoning:

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Zest of ½ lemon
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)


Instructions

  1. Blanch Broccoli: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add broccoli florets and blanch for 2–3 minutes. Drain and dry.
  2. Prepare and Roast: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Smash broccoli florets flat, place on baking sheet. Mix olive oil, garlic, chili flakes, salt, pepper, and lemon zest. Drizzle over broccoli. Roast for 20–25 minutes.
  3. Finish and Serve: Squeeze lemon juice over roasted broccoli. Sprinkle with Parmesan. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, omit Parmesan or use a plant-based alternative.
  • Add extra chili flakes for more heat.
  • Makes a great side dish or low-carb snack.
