Salmon Patty Ingredients
- 1 (14.75 oz) can of salmon, drained and flaked
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or crushed saltine crackers
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Salmon Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained and flaked salmon, finely chopped onion, breadcrumbs or crushed crackers, eggs, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, chopped parsley if using, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Form Patties: Divide the salmon mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each portion gently into a patty, making sure they hold together well but are not too compacted.
- Heat the Oil: Place a large skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Allow the oil to heat up until shimmering but not smoking.
- Cook Patties: Add the salmon patties carefully to the skillet. Cook each side for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the patties turn golden brown and are cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even cooking.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve them warm with your favorite dipping sauce or side dish.
Notes
- You can substitute canned salmon with cooked fresh salmon if preferred.
- For a gluten-free recipe, use gluten-free breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs or crackers.
- Alternatively, the patties can be baked at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 18 minutes, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
