Salad Ingredients
- 1 small, seedless watermelon
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt
- 2 tablespoons roughly chopped mint
- 2 tablespoons roughly chopped basil
- 2 tablespoons microgreens
Instructions
- Prepare Watermelon and Mozzarella: Cut the watermelon into flat plates and use a cookie cutter to cut out circles from the watermelon. Slice the mozzarella into 1/2 inch thick slices for stacking.
- Assemble Stacks: Layer the watermelon circles and mozzarella slices alternately in stacks to create an appealing presentation.
- Dress the Salad: Drizzle each stack evenly with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and sprinkle with flaky sea salt to enhance the flavors.
- Add Herbs and Greens: Top the stacks with roughly chopped basil, mint, and microgreens to add freshness and a beautiful finish.
Notes
- For best results, use a ripe but firm watermelon to maintain structure when cutting circles.
- Fresh mozzarella should be well-drained to avoid excess moisture in the salad.
- Flaky sea salt adds a nice texture and burst of flavor; regular salt can be used if unavailable.
- This salad is best served immediately but can be refrigerated for up to 1 hour before serving.
- Optional: Add a sprinkle of black pepper or a few crushed pistachios for extra flavor and crunch.
